Robotalco – Callisto *
◉ Something different this time. It’s about Robotalco’s cassette release ‘’Callisto’’. A lot buzz and press quotes about it and its ‘Balearic’ sound. Let’s clear first that I like a lot the release and it’s one of my favourite tapes of the year so far. But where its Balearica? Is it Balearic? Let's deep dive into the release and try searching for it. ‘’Callisto’’ is a varicolored multi-direction album. Its sea-shored introduction, ''Tape 1'', reminds Brandon Knocke's Body San album "Shining the Money Ball" while the first digital single and same title track his 100% Silk earlier release. Aquatic micro-Franco ambient sound of the Italian dream house and NYC jazzed underground flavour circa 1990 ''Cuissardes Fatality'' we can admit that has a White Island and Amnesia sunrising vibe, not? On 'Daydreamer'' Moon B's fans like me they will discover an accelerated state of West Coast producer’s lo-fi boogie. On ''Bubble Rhodes'' which is closing the A Side, things are getting really wicked, as track's Mediterranean beach funk cosmic echoes are ready to turning DJ heads on it. It's this, the killer house sound that comes from Italy lately. The jazzy ''Fake A'' is a lazy interlude which lost in summer's heatwaves and shaped perfetly on label's ambient state. On the other hand ''Freedub'' shaped on and for the after midnight hours, if it was released in the heart of the nineties, Phil Mison, the legendary Balearic DJ, would been playin' it for sure. ''Missaglia Jungle'' is one of those dub inspired fascinating tracks that i use to use to change the tempo and the mood from reggae to house and the opposite. It's a killer under the water bubble maker, even Missangle is far from the sea. Next, the broken not broken house beats of ''Robodub 3'' has an underground old deep house mood that takes us next to A Man Called Adam and Dubtribe Sound System Balearic choiced tracks. ''Ghost Robot'' which is running out the album a little bit different as its tension 'moves' in Detoit, Detroit's jazzed techno and house. Missing an outro on the B Side. And find some Balearic For You moments on ‘’Callisto’’ but it is really Balearic? For me… No. - DJ Nova, Balearic For You **
