IRM 1430 The Balearic Sound Of IRMA Records selected by DJ Nova

The spark came from Chicago and the fire started to spread then turned into an inferno when Ibiza’s Balearic Beat joined forces with the Acid House scene causing a sensation in Great Britain. However things were still in their inception and I believe the true catalyst was once again the dance scene of Italy. The Mediterranean environment was appropriate - the sun, the sea, the Balearic Islands and the Adriatic Sea created an aphrodisiac play of music, fun, and relaxation. In 1988 the Balearic culture had already been established and the following summer the Italo House scene gave it the big push. Soul-inspired Deep house and midtempo grooves were getting published from both counties, Italy and UK. IRMA Records was a fruit of this environment and started releasing one music gem after another: House tunes with Latin, jazz, soul and funk influences representing all the brand-new hybrid styles of the house and downtempo genres, like ambient house, hip house, disco house, and acid jazz. Many of them still cause sensation today but other got lost in our record collections since they were never released in a form other than the original 12'' vinyl. The recent revival of the old-school-new-school & future retro sounds became the main inspiration and IRMA & I decided to unearth some these lost classics and make them available to be remembered or discovered again. Several weeks of searching later, that idea became reality and the digital era welcomes this superb compilation of tracks, never-before released on CD or mp3 format most of them.
