Two years after the exciting ‘’Rhythm Is What Makes Jazz Jazz’’ and two years of hard work’ – let me say that cos i knew about this album progress step by step – Oliver Beltz is ready to win our minds again with his new long player. Under his Bahama Soul Club project and with his usual plus new one parthers is ready to release his ‘’Bossa Nova Just Smells Funky’’ again in Buyu Records. If you like his first album you would love the new one too. Enjoyable horns, bossa rhythms, funky attitude, fat basslines and the best live percussions that you can get around are creating his new step in discography a retro guide of the present jazz and funk culture that can lead us to the future of one of the most old dancefloor music styles. Some tracks are already played and playlisted by Dj Nova, like the super single collaboration with John Turrell on ‘’Serious Soul’’, ‘’Bossa Bop’’, ‘’Tangossa’’ *, both with with Pat Appleton’s vocals and ‘’Kings Wig’’ (the last one was my TOP track last November). Chin Chin Records voice of Bella Wagner, well known from ‘’Kind Of Cool" earlier collaboration, appears again here. This time her vocals in ‘’Experience In Jazz’’ reminds me the outstainding Grace Jones. Wagner’s voice can take me away as i’m enjouying this deep funk bossa full of rich percussions and horns that can stay minutes in your head. Kojato, an old Oliver Beltz partner, vocals excisting in ‘’Afro Shigida’’. Sitzka, a not familiar name to me, is singing on ‘’Junkie’’, a funk breaks dj stuff with mad sax and swinging guitar riff that will be played my many, for sure. A Secret sedactive vocals are leading us to the avenue that Bahama Soul Club knows very well, bossa, the bossa nova that melted with funk, the ‘’Bossa Corcovado’’ as Oliver Beltz name it this time. More suprices are following and completing the album, Xantone Blacq velvet & warm voice, ‘’Nassau Jam’’ remixed by Smoove (released in Mighty British Series Vol.1 12’’ back in 2008) and Club Del Belugas remix on Bahama Soul Club debut release ‘’But Rich Rhythms’’, just picked by me as No1 in my Januaray 2010 Dj Chart. Oliver Betlz, is not the first one or the first time who is flirting with Argentina’s most well known music worldwide, tango. But the decadence of the tango that says astor piazzolla himself in the intro of the ‘’Tangossa’’ is like the the broken heartbeats of a not endless love affair. A sweet disappointment mixed with a nice jazzy bassline, leading bossa rhythm, that can take you away with the bandoneon sound perfectly and the harmonic voice of Pat Appleton as usual.
