New Mondo ''Total Control'', A Debut Album Of Smooth, Funky San Francisco House Supported By Dj Nova

Transport Recordings presents New Mondo, the exciting collaboration of two celebrated San Francisco deep house producers, DJ MFR (Marco >From Rome) and Vincent Kwok. The duo had individually relocated to the Bay Area to pursue their love of house music, setting up labels (Transport and Eight Fifteen) and building well-regarded DJ resumes. Together Kwok and MFR formed New Mondo in 2001, initially focusing on dark, twisted, big room affairs, providing a contrast to the soulful, deep house sound that each were producing individually. The New Mondo sound was further honed with the release of Down Town San Francisco in 2008 on Swank Recordings. This mixed CD highlighted Kwok and MFR as DJs and bridged the sonic evolution of New Mondo from past efforts to the accomplishment of the first New Mondo album: Total Control.

Total Control thrusts New Mondo into greater realms of accessibility and danceability. This ambitious set of music features vocal guest spots from Lisa Shaw (Naked/Salted Music), Sandy Rivera vocalist Leedia Urteaga, renowned San Francisco jazz singer Indra Jones, New Mondo mainstay Morrisson, and others. Here New Mondo's sound combines dancefloor burners and emotive song writing as well as subtle nods to 80's new wave funk. It's an appealing stew that works, and it makes for a much more fulfilling listen than your usual dance album.

The new New Mondo full artist album Total Control is available now from Transport Recordings exclusively on iTunes. Its songs are also available in extended, DJ-friendly versions exclusively through Traxsource. Total Control will have a general release on CD and digital formats on July 13, 2009.

Ο Μιχάλης είχε αναλάβει τη διοργάνωση της βραδιάς του Velvet Blus στο κλαμπ «Otto» των Σερρών, σε συνεργασία με τον όμιλο Unesco τηςπόλης, στο πλαίσιο της σειράς εκδηλώσεων για το Μήνα της Βιοποικιλότητας. Ο ίδιος είναι ραδιοφωνικός παραγωγός, «ψυχή» του σταθμού Rodon 95.0 FM που εδρεύει στην πόλη, και ειδικεύεται σε «εναλλακτικές» μουσικές. «Η άμεση συνεργάτης μου Άννα αλλά και όλοι όσοι δουλεύουν στο σταθμό κινούμαστε με βάση το κοινό μας πάθος και προσπαθούμε πέρα από τη διεθνή σκηνή, να παρακολουθούμε την ανεξάρτητη ελληνική, ειδικά τα τελευταία χρόνια που κάτι φαίνεται να κινείται, κυρίως χάρη στις νέες τεχνολογίες», μας λέει, για να συνεχίσει μιλώντας για τη δυσκολία να προσελκυστούν νέοι παραγωγοί: «Παρόλο που υπάρχει αυτός ο καταιγισμός πληροφορίας, "κατεβασμάτων" μουσικής από το Internet κ.λπ., αυτό που κυριαρχεί σταθερά είναι το mainsteam. Λίγα χρόνια πριν έρχονταν συνέχεια νέα παιδιά και ζητούσαν να κάνουν εκπομπές ενημερωμένες, να παίζουν λίγο πιο καινούρια πράγματα κι όχι τα τετριμμένα. Σήμερα δεν ξέρω αν οι νέοι καλύπτονται από το Internet, τα μπλογκ, την κοινωνική δικτύωση κ.λπ., παραμερίζοντας κάπως το ραδιόφωνο. Ίσως οι της δικής μου γενιάς (40 χρόνων) να σκέφτονται τη μουσική κάπως διαφορετικά, είχαμε συνηθίσει να «ματώνουμε» για να βρούμε ένα δίσκο, μια μουσική από τα τοπικά δισκοπωλεία και συχνά πεταγόμασταν μέχρι τη Θεσσαλονίκη για να τους αγοράσουμε. Συνηθίσαμε γενικά σε μια διαφορετική διαδικασία». Οι συναυλίες πάντως που διοργανώνονται στην πόλη δεν πηγαίνουν άσχημα. «Είχε έρθει η Μόνικα και έκανε sold out, παλιότερα οι Raining Pleasure και τα Διάφανα Κρίνα το ίδιο, ενώ και άλλοι λιγότερο γνωστοί -Sigmatropic, Flakes- πήγαν σχετικά καλά, αφού υπάρχει ένας πυρήνας 150-200 ατόμων που στηρίζουν όσα γίνονται στην πόλη. Δεν θα 'λεγα πάντως το ίδιο και για τους σπουδαστές του εδώ ΤΕΙ, οι οποίοι απουσιάζουν από την πολιτιστική ζωή, δεν τους βλέπεις, π.χ., ούτε σε προβολές της κινηματογραφικής λέσχης. Μάλλον προτιμούν τις καφετέριες ή τις βραδιές καραόκε». Και μιλάμε για μια πόλη όπου κάθε άλλο παρά απουσιάζει η καλλιτεχνική δράση. «Ο πολιτιστικός χώρος "Αστέρια", που χτίστηκε πριν από λίγο καιρό στην πόλη, είναι πολύ επιβλητικός, κάπως σαν το Μέγαρο Μουσικής της Αθήνας, και σίγουρα έχει δώσε ώθηση για να γίνονται πράγματα ειδικά σε συνδυασμό με τη δραστηριότητα του ΔΗΠΕΘΕ Σερρών και του καλλιτεχνικού διευθυντή του, Θοδωρή Γκόνη. Βέβαια, χάρη στο λούστρο του χώρου, πολλοί πηγαίνουν στις εκδηλώσεις αντιμετωπίζοντας τες ως κυρίως κοσμικά γεγονότα, αλλά μάλλον αυτό δεν είναι πρωτεύον», λέει ο Μιχάλης, για να επιστρέψει στη βραδιά του Velvet Bus: «Έγινε μια καλή κατάσταση, που σου δίνει κουράγιο να συνεχίζεις. Η αλήθεια είναι ότι ένιωσα λίγο άβολα βλέποντας το κοινό ν' αποτελείται κυρίως από 30άρηδες, την ώρα που οι πιτσιρικάδες μουσικοί έπαιζαν φοβερά, τα έδιναν όλα, γι' αυτό και αναρωτήθηκα: δεν θα 'πρεπε οι συνομήλικοι τους να 'ναι από κάτω και να χτυπιούνται;»
